Civil rights attorney Ben Crump has revealed new details surrounding the death of Nolan Wells, whose body was discovered near Mississippi’s Horn Island. During an appearance on Don Lemon’s YouTube show, Crump said an argument allegedly took place among the group before Wells died, though he stressed that the investigation is still ongoing.
According to Crump, Wells had been focused on his future and was preparing for a Division I football tryout scheduled for Monday. His family says he was a talented athlete and strong swimmer, which is why they strongly reject any suggestion that drugs or other substances played a role in what happened. They say they are struggling to understand how they lost their son.
Crump explained that his legal team is continuing to speak with witnesses and gather information before making any conclusions. “We don’t want to speculate, but we do want to investigate,” he said, adding that more details will be shared as the facts become clearer.
The attorney also confirmed that an independent autopsy is being performed in Washington, D.C., separate from the official examination conducted by Mississippi authorities. For Wells’ family, the search for answers continues as they seek to understand the circumstances surrounding his death.
