At just five years old, Ryder Wells has already overcome challenges that most people could never imagine. When he was only 21 months old, he survived a devastating attack by two large dogs while visiting family in North Carolina. The attack left him with severe facial injuries, crushed teeth, a broken arm, and a punctured lung. Against all odds, Ryder survived and has since undergone around 50 surgeries.
Despite his incredible strength, Ryder now faces a different kind of pain. His mother says strangers and even other children have cruelly called him names, with some pointing at him in public or staring because of his appearance. Although these moments are heartbreaking, Ryder continues to show remarkable courage, refusing to let the negativity define him.

As Ryder prepares for school, his family hopes people will look beyond his scars and see the kind, brave little boy he truly is. His mother reminds him every day that he is beautiful just as he is, encouraging him to be proud of who he is instead of hiding behind a hat or glasses. Her greatest wish is for others to treat him with the same compassion they would want for their own children.

Ryder’s story is a powerful reminder that kindness costs nothing. A smile, a friendly word, or simply choosing not to judge someone by their appearance can make a lasting difference. Every child deserves to feel accepted, valued, and loved, and Ryder’s resilience inspires us all to choose empathy over cruelty and teach future generations to do the same.
