A goose! 🪿 They may look harmless, but they can become surprisingly aggressive when protecting a nest or their young. Getting too close can turn a peaceful walk through the park into a full-on sprint! And they’re definitely not the only seemingly harmless animals that can chase people.
Swans 🦢 are another good example. They’re beautiful and usually peaceful, but they can become very territorial, especially during nesting season. Magpies 🐦 can also be surprisingly fearless, with some swooping at people who get too close to their nests. These attacks are usually meant to drive people away rather than seriously hurt them.
Then there are cows 🐄, which most people think of as gentle farm animals. A protective mother can become aggressive if someone gets too close to her calf. Moose 🫎 can also charge when frightened, disturbed, or when a mother feels her young are threatened. So that cute, peaceful-looking animal may be a very different story if you accidentally get too close.
And if you want the ultimate plot twist, meet the cassowary 🐦. They look almost prehistoric and are normally shy, but they can chase or charge people, particularly when protecting chicks or when they have become accustomed to receiving food from humans. They can also cause serious injuries, so this is one animal you definitely don’t want to test! Which “harmless” animal would make you run the fastest? 😂
