With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of this beloved actress at age 94

The world is mourning the loss of beloved Scottish actress Phyllida Law, who has died at the age of 94. Her longtime manager, Jacky Leggo, confirmed that Law died peacefully at home on July 27, surrounded by her family. No cause of death was given.

Born in Glasgow in 1932, Law built a remarkable acting career spanning decades. She appeared in films including Much Ado About Nothing, The Time Machine and Nanny McPhee, while also becoming a familiar face on British television through shows such as Midsomer Murders, Foyle’s War and Doc Martin.

For many fans, however, some of her most memorable performances came alongside her daughters, actresses Emma and Sophie Thompson. Law appeared with Emma in Much Ado About Nothing, Nanny McPhee and The Winter Guest, while she shared the screen with Sophie in the 1996 film Emma. Their family connection added a special meaning to those performances.

Beyond acting, Law was also an author who wrote several memoirs. She received an OBE in 2014 for her contributions to drama and charitable work, and her final screen role came in the 2020 film Then Came You. She is survived by her two daughters and four grandchildren. Rest in peace, Phyllida Law. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.
