RIP Dolly.

Dolly Parton, the legendary country music icon, has died at 80. Her death was announced Tuesday, August 25, by her nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, through her official Instagram account. The news has been confirmed by multiple major outlets, including Reuters and PEOPLE.

The timing is especially heartbreaking because just days earlier, Parton had spoken publicly about her health. On August 21, she told PEOPLE that she had been dealing with health issues after putting her own health aside while caring for her late husband, Carl Dean. She said she was still healing but remained focused on several future projects.

Parton’s recent health problems had already affected her schedule. She missed the opening of a new Dollywood attraction, appeared virtually at an awards ceremony, and had canceled her planned Las Vegas residency. However, those developments do not establish what ultimately caused her death. As of the latest reports, no official cause of death has been publicly disclosed.

That distinction is important. Her recent health struggles are confirmed, but connecting them to a specific cause of death would be speculation unless her family or medical officials provide that information. At 80, Parton leaves behind an extraordinary legacy spanning music, film, philanthropy and business—including classics such as “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.”
