How to Prevent Sheets from Balling Up in the Dryer

Ever open the dryer expecting warm, fluffy sheets, only to find a giant twisted knot—with the outside dry but everything inside still damp? 😤 You’re not doing anything “wrong.” Large sheets naturally wrap around themselves, towels, and other clothes as the drum spins, especially when the dryer is overloaded.

The easiest fix is surprisingly simple: give your sheets more room to tumble! 👀 Shake each sheet out before putting it in the dryer, separate the pieces, and avoid stuffing bedding in with a heavy load of towels. For stubborn tangling, try drying sheets separately or in smaller loads. If you use dryer balls, they can also help keep fabrics moving and improve airflow—but they won’t fix an overloaded dryer.

Fitted sheets are often the biggest troublemakers. Their elastic corners and deep pockets can grab onto other laundry and create a huge bundle. Before drying, loosely gather the corners together rather than leaving them completely loose. You can also pause the dryer halfway through, pull everything apart, give the sheets a quick shake, and continue the cycle. ❤️

And when the cycle ends, take the sheets out promptly instead of letting them sit crumpled in the drum. The biggest secret is simply: smaller loads, separated bedding, plenty of room to tumble, and a quick shake before drying. 🧺✨ Do this, and you may never have to wrestle with another giant sheet knot again! 😅
