This 60s heartthrob was hooking up with groupies, partying with the Rolling Stones, and in AA by the age of 19 – look at him now

Peter Noone was a teenage heartthrob who entered Alcoholics Anonymous at just 19 — and his story was far more complicated than his innocent image suggested. 🎸 As the frontman of Herman’s Hermits, Noone became a huge star while still in his teens. The band scored major hits including I’m Into Something Good, No Milk Today, and There’s a Kind of Hush, selling millions of records and reportedly even outselling the Beatles in 1965. By 17, Noone was already part of a million-dollar record deal, while Elvis Presley famously performed I’m Henry VIII, I Am onstage.

Behind the boyish smile, however, Noone was living the fast-paced rock ’n’ roll lifestyle. He stayed out all night, drank with older stars, and spent time around The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. He later admitted that drinking was partly about fitting in because he didn’t feel particularly interesting. He also recalled John Lennon buying him drinks because he knew Noone was only 16. But by 19, he attended his first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting with his father, who was also a drinker. Noone eventually stopped drinking and focused on his health.

Noone met Mireille when he was 20, and what began as attraction eventually became lasting love. The couple married in 1968 and had a daughter, Nicole. He left Herman’s Hermits in 1971 at age 24, later finding success on Broadway and television, including The Pirates of Penzance. He also continued working in music and appeared as a mentor and voice coach on American Idol.

Looking back, Noone has described himself as fortunate to have survived the excesses of the 1960s. From a shy Manchester teenager to an international pop star, his journey included fame, wild nights, sobriety, family, and decades of performing. ❤️✨
