Tyler Perry Explains Why Marriage Isn’t in His Plans

Tyler Perry has built an entire movie franchise around the question “Why Did I Get Married?”—but when it comes to his own life, he says marriage isn’t something he plans to pursue. The filmmaker and actor has created three movies around the subject, yet his concerns have less to do with marriage itself and more with what could happen financially if a marriage eventually ended.

Perry has said he has watched people who were financially successful before marriage lose significant wealth after divorce. For someone with a major entertainment career and substantial assets, he views the financial risks of marriage and divorce differently. His comments reflect a concern that the end of a relationship can sometimes create complicated financial consequences. 💰

High-value divorces can involve far more than dividing money in a bank account. Businesses, real estate, investments, intellectual property and other assets may all become part of financial negotiations or legal disputes. Prenuptial agreements can help establish certain expectations ahead of time, but they don’t necessarily prevent every disagreement, expense or legal complication.

For Perry, staying unmarried appears to be his way of avoiding that particular financial risk altogether. No marriage means no divorce proceeding to divide marital assets. His perspective may be shaped by what he has witnessed in the lives of others, but ultimately, marriage and financial planning involve circumstances that are different for every person. 🧐
