10 signs your arteries might be clogged

Clogged arteries, a condition often associated with atherosclerosis, occur when fatty deposits called plaque build up inside blood vessels, narrowing the space available for blood to flow. This can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes and circulation problems. Recognizing possible warning signs is important, although some people experience no symptoms until a serious complication develops. ❤️

One potential warning sign is chest pain or pressure, particularly during physical activity. Shortness of breath, nausea and unusual heart palpitations may also signal a heart-related problem, although they can have many other causes. Symptoms should never be ignored simply because they appear mild or come and go.

Reduced circulation to the brain can cause sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking or sudden vision changes. These may indicate a stroke or transient ischemic attack. Meanwhile, narrowed arteries supplying the legs can cause pain while walking, unusually cold feet, or sores on the feet that heal slowly. These symptoms deserve medical evaluation, especially when they are new or persistent.

Not every symptom means an artery is blocked, and no single sign can confirm the condition. However, sudden chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, facial drooping, one-sided weakness or trouble speaking require emergency medical attention. Do not wait for symptoms to disappear. For ongoing circulation concerns, consult a healthcare professional who can assess risk factors such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and smoking. A healthy diet, regular physical activity and prescribed treatment can help reduce cardiovascular risk. 🩺
