Mom’s ‘miracle baby’ conceived thanks to dad’s sperm donation just one hour before his first chemo

Lois Rose, 30, and her partner, Liam Bradley, 38, are celebrating the arrival of their daughter, Birdie, after an extraordinary race against time. In April 2025, Liam was diagnosed with stage 4 bile duct cancer, with 12 tumors discovered in his liver. As he prepared to begin chemotherapy, doctors warned that the treatment could affect his fertility, threatening the couple’s dream of having a child together. Determined not to give up, they searched for a way to preserve their chance of becoming parents.

Their opportunity came while they were on holiday in Rhodes, Greece, when they received a call from Nurture Fertility in Nottingham, England. The clinic explained that Liam could provide a sperm sample before starting chemotherapy. Despite the tight schedule, staff agreed to open early to accommodate him. After returning from their trip, Liam provided his sample in May 2025 and rushed to the hospital to begin treatment just one hour later. The couple later learned that their IVF treatment had succeeded, and Lois gave birth to Birdie in July.

For Liam, becoming a father has brought renewed purpose during an incredibly difficult chapter of his life. He described his daughter as a happy distraction from cancer, explaining that his family gives him something meaningful to focus on beyond his illness. Lois also praised Birdie, describing her as a wonderful baby who has brought immense joy into their lives. Their story is a powerful reminder of how hope can endure even when the future feels uncertain.

Although Liam initially saw encouraging results from treatment, his journey has remained challenging. In May 2026, he was admitted to intensive care after serious treatment side effects and learned that the cancer had spread to one of his lungs. Despite the setbacks, he continues to look ahead with hope, supported by Lois and their daughter. “There’s so much that I want to live for,” Liam said, expressing his determination to keep fighting and to offer hope to others facing the same devastating diagnosis.
