Tragedy Strikes Minneapolis Church During Student Mass
On August 27, 2025, a student Mass at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis ended in devastation when violence erupted inside the sanctuary. Two children, ages 8 and 10, lost their lives, and 17 others—including 14 children—were injured. Two remain in critical condition.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed the suspect was Robin Westman, a local woman in her early 20s. Officials say she used multiple weapons during the attack and is believed to have died at the scene. Though she had no serious criminal record, investigators uncovered troubling online posts containing extremist symbols and a handwritten manifesto describing years of mental health struggles, loneliness, and remorse.
Fifth-grader Weston Halse recalled hiding under a pew while a friend shielded him and was injured. He was later evacuated to the gym for safety before reuniting with his mother. Parents, including Carla Maldonado, expressed both relief and anguish. “I’m grateful my children survived, but heartbroken this continues to happen in schools,” she said.
President Donald Trump addressed the tragedy on Truth Social, offering condolences to families and ordering U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff through August 31. The FBI and local authorities are continuing the investigation.
