Best Sleep Position for Waking Up Refreshed, Experts Say

Improving sleep posture can make a noticeable difference in how you feel each morning. Many people still wake up tired or sore despite getting enough sleep, often due to poor sleeping positions. Sleeping on the stomach, for example, can place extra pressure on the neck and spine, leading to discomfort and disrupted rest.

Sleeping on your side is a better option for many. This position helps keep the spine aligned and reduces strain on muscles and joints. It can also support better breathing by keeping airways open, which may reduce snoring. Placing a pillow between the knees can further improve balance and comfort during the night.

Your bed setup also plays a key role. A mattress that is too soft or too firm can affect support, so a balanced one is ideal. A proper pillow should keep your head aligned with your spine to prevent neck strain. Avoid tightly curled positions or placing arms under your body, as these can limit circulation and reduce comfort.

Good sleep posture supports both physical recovery and mental well-being. During deep sleep, the body restores energy and repairs itself. Combined with a calming bedtime routine, such as reducing screen time or relaxing before sleep, small changes can lead to better rest and more refreshed mornings.
