Vinegar helps clean the washing machine

Keeping a washing machine clean often feels like an overlooked chore, yet regular maintenance can save hours of effort later and help the appliance run more efficiently. Dirt, detergent residue, lint, and moisture gradually build up inside the drum and filters, creating odors and reducing performance. One of the most effective and affordable solutions is white vinegar, which helps dissolve mineral deposits, remove soap buildup, and eliminate unpleasant smells without harsh chemicals.

Start by removing any detachable parts such as the detergent drawer, filters, and covers. Wash these pieces separately using warm water and a sponge to scrub away residue, paying attention to hidden spots where lint or hair may collect. Dry everything thoroughly before placing the parts back into the machine. Next, pour white vinegar into the detergent compartment and run an empty cycle at a standard or warm temperature, allowing the vinegar to circulate through the drum and internal pipes.

For deeper stains, baking soda can be added for extra cleaning power. Don’t forget the exterior—wipe the door, rubber seals, and control panel with a mixture of water and vinegar. Let it sit briefly to loosen grime, then dry with a clean cloth. This prevents mold from forming around damp areas and keeps the machine looking new.

White vinegar can also be used throughout the home for sinks, faucets, mirrors, floors, and tiles. Cleaning your washing machine monthly—or more often with heavy use—extends its lifespan and keeps your laundry smelling fresh. Simple, natural care makes all the difference.
