Known as Eulagisca gigantea, this unusual marine worm has recently captured attention online because of its terrifying appearance. With shimmering golden bristles covering its body and a mouth lined with sharp teeth, many people were shocked to learn that this strange creature is very real and has existed in the Southern Ocean for decades.

Eulagisca gigantea typically grows to about eight inches long, roughly the size of a banana. One of its most remarkable features is its retractable throat, which extends outward when it is feeding. This reveals a set of sharp teeth used to capture prey or scavenge for food on the ocean floor. Scientists believe the worm is an active predator that feeds on smaller marine animals. Its metallic-looking golden bristles may help it move through the water, crawl across the seabed, or even protect it from predators.
