A homeless man from San Luis Obispo, California, has become the center of an inspiring story after winning a $1 million lottery prize from a scratch ticket. On April 6, Armando Vidal walked into Sandy’s Liquor with just $25 and bought two Triple Red 777 scratch tickets. The odds of winning the top prize were more than 1 in 2 million, but his decision would soon change his life forever. After winning $200 on the first ticket, he returned the next morning to scratch the second one.
At first, Vidal believed he had won $100,000. Store manager Wilson Samaan scanned the ticket and quickly noticed an extra zero. The prize was actually $1 million. Both men were shocked and celebrated the incredible moment together. Sandy’s Liquor later shared the news online, congratulating their longtime customer on the life-changing jackpot.
Vidal had been homeless for years and was well known throughout the community. Despite facing hardships and a chronic knee condition that prevented him from working, friends and local business owners described him as honest, kind, and dependable. Wanting to protect the winning ticket, Samaan personally drove Vidal to a California Lottery office to make sure it was safely submitted.
Now looking ahead to a brighter future, Vidal plans to buy a home and a car for himself and his wife. He also hopes to invest part of the money or start a business. In addition, he wants to purchase a property where stray and abandoned dogs can be cared for and given a safe home. According to Samaan, Vidal sees the jackpot as a second chance and is determined not to waste it. His story is a powerful reminder that life can change when least expected.
