At 108 years old, Susan Young Browne made a surprising decision—she renewed her driver’s license. Issued in Delaware, the renewal is valid until 2033, meaning she has been cleared to drive until the age of 115. For many, it sounds unbelievable, but for Susan, it is simply part of her normal life.
She still drives herself three times a week to a local activity center where she joins group exercise classes and is warmly greeted by friends. Her daily routine also includes morning workouts at home, a habit she has kept for decades to stay active and independent.
Born in 1918, Susan has lived through more than a century of history. She grew up on a farm during segregation without running water or electricity, later earned a teaching degree, and spent 30 years teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. Even after retiring, she chose not to slow down, continuing to focus on movement and routine.
When she celebrated her 108th birthday, more than 130 people attended, including the state’s governor, who jokingly asked for her secret to longevity. Her answer was simple—she just tries to grow older gracefully. Her story is a reminder that age doesn’t define what someone is capable of, and that living actively can make all the difference.
