Danny Glover has shared his health journey publicly for the first time in an emotional interview alongside his family. Speaking with Lester Holt on TODAY, the 79-year-old actor said he felt it was finally the right time to tell his own story. His daughter, Mandisa Glover, explained that the decision was important because she wanted her father to have control over his own narrative rather than letting others speculate. She also admitted it had become difficult to reassure people that everything was fine when it wasn’t.
Before the diagnosis became public, Mandisa noticed a subtle change that caught her attention. She said her father had always been known for his incredible memory, recalling the smallest details from decades earlier. But over time, familiar family stories began to have missing pieces. That slight difference made her wonder if something deeper was happening, eventually leading the family to seek answers.
Glover later revealed that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2023, shortly before receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. He acknowledged that accepting the diagnosis has not been easy but said he is learning to live with it. While he knows the condition will continue to progress, he remains grateful for the memories he still holds and the support surrounding him.
Throughout the interview, Glover made it clear that his greatest strength is his family. He said they have “absolutely” been by his side through every step of the journey, while his brother Martin promised to support him just as Danny had always supported him. Their story is a reminder that facing a difficult diagnosis can become a little less overwhelming when surrounded by love, honesty, and family.
