Doctor issues serious warning over popular NeeDoh Cubes after children end up in hospital

Doctors and fire officials are warning parents about a dangerous social media trend involving NeeDoh Cubes after several children reportedly suffered serious burns. NeeDoh Cubes are soft sensory toys designed to be squeezed and stretched, but some children have been heating them in microwaves to make them softer. The manufacturer clearly warns against heating, freezing, or microwaving the toys because doing so can cause them to burst and release extremely hot contents.

Authorities say multiple children have required hospital treatment after attempting the trend. The Nassau County Fire Commission and Fire Marshal’s Office described the practice as “extremely dangerous,” warning it could result in severe injuries. Officials reported that several children have suffered second- and third-degree burns, including one child in New York, and urged parents to closely supervise children in the kitchen and discourage risky social media challenges.

One reported case involved a nine-year-old boy from Chicago who suffered serious facial burns after a heated NeeDoh Cube burst. Pediatric emergency physician Dr. Alicia Webb warned that many children are not mature enough to recognize the dangers of viral online trends, making parental awareness especially important. She encouraged families to discuss internet safety and remind children never to copy unsafe challenges they see online.

Schylling, the company behind NeeDoh Cubes, emphasized that consumer safety is its highest priority and reminded customers that the toys should only be used as intended. The company stressed that microwaving, heating, or freezing the product is misuse and can cause serious injuries. Experts hope greater awareness will help prevent more accidents and encourage children to enjoy the toys safely.
