The Nassau County Fire Commission and Fire Marshal’s Office described the practice as “extremely dangerous,” warning it could result in severe injuries. Officials reported that several children have suffered second- and third-degree burns, including one child in New York, and urged parents to closely supervise children in the kitchen and discourage risky social media challenges.

One reported case involved a nine-year-old boy from Chicago who suffered serious facial burns after a heated NeeDoh Cube burst. Pediatric emergency physician Dr. Alicia Webb warned that many children are not mature enough to recognize the dangers of viral online trends, making parental awareness especially important. She encouraged families to discuss internet safety and remind children never to copy unsafe challenges they see online.
