Ingredients:
1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp cornstarch (for coating the beef)
2 tbsp vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
1 large onion, thinly sliced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, minced
½ cup beef broth or water
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp sugar
2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Cooked white rice (for serving)
Instructions:
Marinate the beef: In a bowl, toss the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.
Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, beef broth, rice vinegar, and sugar. Set aside.
Stir-fry the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
Cook the onions: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil and stir-fry the sliced onions, garlic, and ginger for about 3-4 minutes, until softened and fragrant.
Combine everything: Add the beef back into the skillet with the onions. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture and stir everything together. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Serve: Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot over steamed white rice.
Helpful Tips:
For extra tenderness, freeze the beef for 20 minutes before slicing it thinly.
You can add vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or broccoli for a heartier dish.
