Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, has reportedly filed a legal petition to remove her father’s surname shortly after turning 18. Court documents state that the request was made for “personal” reasons, and if approved, her legal name will become Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The move follows her recent professional credits, where she was already listed simply as “Vivienne Jolie.”

Vivienne is not the first of the former couple’s children to distance herself from the Pitt surname. Shiloh has legally changed her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, while Maddox and Zahara have also been reported to use Jolie instead of Pitt. Knox has reportedly used “Knox Jolie” on his high school diploma, though he has not publicly filed for a legal name change.

These decisions come after years of highly publicized family tensions. Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in 2016, and although the divorce was finalized in 2024, legal disputes continued over their former shared assets. Neither Vivienne nor her siblings have publicly explained their personal reasons for changing or dropping their father’s surname, leaving much of the public discussion based on speculation rather than confirmed facts.

Interestingly, Vivienne’s decision mirrors a choice her mother made years ago. In 2002, Angelina legally dropped her father Jon Voight’s surname and became professionally known simply as Angelina Jolie. Vivienne’s court hearing is reportedly scheduled for November, when a judge is expected to decide whether to officially approve her requested name change.
