At just 30 years old, Australian musician Jordan Brunoli is facing an unimaginable reality. The bassist for Brisbane indie rock band Bugs was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer at 29 after months of severe stomach pain, fatigue, and occasional blood in his stool. By the time doctors found the cancer, it had already spread extensively to his liver and lymph nodes.
Brunoli spent more than a year trying different chemotherapy treatments, hoping to slow the disease. But in a heartbreaking August 2026 update, he revealed that the treatments had stopped working. Doctors told him he may have only three to four months left, and he said he is now entering what he described as the “final chapter” of his life.
Yet even through treatment, Brunoli refused to give up the part of his life that means the most to him: music. He continued recording with Bugs while recovering from surgery and dealing with the effects of chemotherapy. Their new album, Head Noise, is set for release on August 28, a project he says was created through both the best and worst moments of the past two years.

Now, instead of focusing only on the time he may have left, Brunoli is determined to make every moment count. Bugs has announced upcoming shows in Brisbane, giving him another chance to perform for fans. His message to those supporting him is simple and incredibly powerful: “Watch me enjoy the f* out of the rest of my life.”**
