A heavily armed California man was arrested at Donald Trump’s National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes just two days before the president was scheduled to host a major Republican National Committee fundraiser there. Authorities say 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele was seen wandering the property, photographing security preparations, and appearing to monitor activity while wearing an earpiece. Deputies detained him after he claimed to be part of a security detail. During the arrest, officers found a loaded magazine containing hollow-point ammunition, while a search of his vehicle uncovered a loaded 9mm pistol, binoculars, and a fake security badge.
The investigation quickly expanded. A court-approved search of Taele’s home in Downey led investigators to an illegally modified AR-style rifle, body armor, multiple high-capacity magazines, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and notebooks containing what officials described as concerning written statements. Authorities also confirmed that Taele was already under investigation in connection with an unrelated robbery case. He has pleaded not guilty to the state charges and is being held on $250,000 bail while also facing federal weapons charges.
The arrest has renewed concerns about security surrounding President Trump, who has faced several serious security incidents in recent years. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Secret Service, and local authorities, continue to investigate whether Taele had any broader plans or acted alone. Officials have emphasized that, despite the alarming discovery of weapons and equipment, there is currently no known ongoing threat connected to Tuesday’s fundraiser.
