Her body was itching, I thought it was an allergy

It started as an innocent itch. I thought it was an allergy—maybe a new detergent or something she ate. Her skin turned red in small patches, and creams and antihistamines did nothing. She couldn’t sleep, and nights became a cycle of scratching and exhaustion. When I saw how pale she looked, I finally convinced her to see a doctor.

The doctor’s expression changed during the exam. He ordered blood tests to “rule out a few things,” but his careful words set off alarms. Days later, we were asked to sit down—and then he said the word that changed everything: cancer. I learned that in rare cases, certain cancers like lymphomas first appear as persistent itching. The rash was her body’s silent alarm.

What followed were hospital corridors, chemotherapy, and constant reminders of fragility. The guilt of assuming it was nothing serious was suffocating. But through it all, she stayed brave. And now, thankfully, she is doing well with ongoing therapy—her strength and the treatment giving us hope again.

Every small symptom no longer feels as loaded. Alongside fear, we have found gratitude. We learned to fight back by cherishing ordinary days. Never ignore your body’s signals. Sometimes an itch isn’t just an itch—it’s a warning. But with care and courage, there can also be a second chapter.
