Hollywood legend John Goodman has shocked fans with his dramatic transformation, reportedly losing around 200 pounds over the course of many years. Best known for roles in Roseanne and The Big Lebowski, as well as voicing Sully in Monsters, Inc., the 74-year-old actor now looks almost unrecognizable to longtime fans.
Unlike many celebrities who have turned to modern weight-loss medications, Goodman has credited major lifestyle changes for his transformation. He gave up alcohol in 2007 after battling alcoholism for three decades, describing his addiction as a “life or death” situation. Sobriety became an important part of rebuilding his health and changing his daily habits.

Goodman also adopted a healthier Mediterranean-style diet and began exercising regularly. At one point, his routine included working with a personal trainer six days a week and walking between 10,000 and 12,000 steps a day. Rather than attempting to change everything overnight, he said he focused on making gradual lifestyle changes that he could maintain for the rest of his life.
His transformation has continued to amaze fans, many of whom say they can barely recognize the actor in recent photos. But Goodman has emphasized that the journey is not about achieving a quick result—it is about maintaining healthier habits every day. His story is a reminder that major changes can take years, and lasting progress often comes from consistency rather than a single dramatic solution.
