How to Get a Knot Out of a Chain

A tangled necklace or chain can be incredibly frustrating, especially when the knot seems impossible to loosen. But there’s no need to pull hard or risk breaking the delicate links. With a little patience and the right technique, even a stubborn knot can often be untangled at home. ✨

Begin by laying the chain on a clean, hard, flat surface, such as a table or tray. Open the clasp so both ends are free. Then place a tiny drop of baby oil, mineral oil, or olive oil directly on the knot. You can also use a light dusting of baby powder, which may help reduce friction and allow the links to move more easily.

Next, gently massage and roll the knot between your fingertips to loosen the tension. Never yank or pull tightly, because this can make the knot even tighter. Once it begins to relax, carefully insert two sewing needles, safety pins, or toothpicks into the center of the knot. Gently wiggle them back and forth to create small openings between the tangled loops.

Finally, work from the center outward, slowly separating one loop at a time. As the knot becomes looser, use your fingers or the tools to carefully guide the chain apart. Take your time rather than forcing it. With patience, the tangled links should eventually slide free, leaving your jewelry ready to wear again. 💎❤️
