Lilo & Stitch’ actress Daveigh Chase’s official cause of death released two weeks after she died at 35

Daveigh Chase, best known as the voice of Lilo in Lilo & Stitch and for playing Samara Morgan in The Ring, has died at the age of 35. Two weeks after her passing, the Los Angeles Medical Examiner confirmed that her official cause of death was complications related to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Her death was ruled natural, and chronic polysubstance use was listed as a significant contributing condition.

Earlier, her father, John Schwallier, had said she died from complications of bacterial meningitis, a blood infection, and severe malnutrition. The differing public statements drew attention as authorities completed their investigation. Chase’s former manager also disputed claims made through an online fundraising campaign, stating that her family was handling the funeral arrangements and urging the public not to donate to an unauthorized fundraiser.

Chase rose to fame at just eight years old after voicing Lilo, becoming one of Disney’s most recognizable child stars. She later reprised the role in numerous episodes of the television series and related video games. That same period, she gained widespread recognition for her unforgettable performance as Samara in the horror hit The Ring, earning the Best Villain award at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards.

Remembered for her talent and memorable performances, Daveigh Chase left a lasting impact on both animation and horror cinema. Her work continues to be appreciated by fans who grew up watching her iconic roles, ensuring that her legacy will endure for years to come.
