Old-Fashioned Homemade Cornbread

Old-Fashioned Homemade Cornbread is a timeless comfort food with a golden, crispy crust, soft center, and rich buttery flavor. It’s perfect alongside chili, soups, stews, barbecue, or a family dinner—or simply served warm with butter and a drizzle of honey. 😋

Ingredients: You’ll need 1½ cups yellow cornmeal, 1 cup all-purpose flour, ¼ cup sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon baking soda, ¾ teaspoon salt, 2 eggs, 1½ cups buttermilk, ½ cup melted butter, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Also, have a little extra butter or oil ready to grease your baking pan.

Instructions: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9-inch baking pan or cast-iron skillet. Whisk the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. In another bowl, combine the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and oil. Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until just combined—don’t overmix! Let the batter rest for 5 minutes, pour it into the pan, and bake for 22–30 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

🧈 The finishing touch: Brush the hot cornbread with melted butter and let it rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with honey, extra butter, or your favorite hearty meal. For a delicious twist, add shredded cheddar, diced jalapeños, or corn kernels. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature, refrigerate for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Simple, delicious, and wonderfully homemade! ❤️
