Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is facing a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge after allegedly crashing into a parked vehicle in Napa County, California. According to authorities, the incident happened on July 3 at around 2:30 p.m. on Yount Street in Yountville. Witnesses reported seeing a brown convertible strike a parked car before briefly stopping and then driving away. The parked vehicle, later identified as a black Tesla, sustained damage to its rear.
Later that day, Napa County Sheriff’s deputies located a brown convertible with significant front-end damage blocking a nearby roadway. The driver was identified as Paul Pelosi. According to investigators, Pelosi admitted he had hit something but told deputies he did not know what it was, so he continued driving. Authorities said he showed no signs of alcohol impairment, and because no one was injured, he was not arrested. Instead, the Sheriff’s Office recommended a misdemeanor charge for leaving the scene of an accident.
Officials also referred Pelosi to the California Department of Motor Vehicles for an evaluation to determine whether he should continue driving, a step they say is common for older drivers involved in traffic incidents. The DMV review will assess whether he remains medically fit to operate a vehicle safely.
The incident comes less than three years after Pelosi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge following a separate crash in Napa County. In that case, he received probation, attended a court-ordered drinking driver program, installed an ignition interlock device, and paid thousands of dollars in fines and restitution. Authorities say the current case remains under review as the legal process moves forward.
