A Philadelphia police officer has died after being shot while responding to a call in West Philadelphia, leaving behind his wife and two young children. Officer Shane Seiber, 40, was struck by three bullets in the early hours of Saturday, October 10, 2026, and later died at the hospital with his family by his side. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel remembered Seiber’s fight to survive, describing the attack as a “brutal, senseless, horrific killing.”

Seiber’s partner was also seriously wounded, suffering 12 gunshot wounds during the confrontation. The 33-year-old officer, a father of five, underwent surgery and was later reported to be in stable but serious condition. Authorities said the officers had responded to a report of an armed man on a porch when they were met with gunfire. Seiber’s death has devastated his colleagues and left his 3-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son growing up without their father.
Investigators say the violence continued after the initial shooting. The suspect allegedly fled and fired at nine additional officers who arrived at the scene, although none of them were struck. Police later located and arrested 35-year-old Eric Lewis, who was reportedly found hiding in a tree. Authorities recovered multiple firearms during the investigation, including a shotgun and handguns.
Lewis has been charged in connection with Seiber’s killing and the shootings of the other officers. He faces dozens of charges, including murder and attempted murder, and has been ordered held without bail. The investigation and legal proceedings remain ongoing. As Philadelphia mourns Seiber, colleagues and community members are remembering an officer whose life was cut short while responding to a call for help. 💔
