Rising golf star dies at just 18 after unexpected emergency

Australian golfer Jessica Bang, a promising young talent preparing for her first full season as a professional, has died at just 18 after suffering a devastating brain hemorrhage in Thailand. Bang suddenly collapsed in Bangkok on August 1 while preparing for a major qualifying tournament. Doctors discovered a severe brain hemorrhage, performed emergency surgery and placed her on life support. Despite her family’s desperate efforts, she died at 7:20 a.m. local time Thursday.

Bang had traveled to Thailand hoping to take another step toward the professional career she had worked so hard to build. Her family launched a fundraiser to help cover her medical expenses and arrange a specialized flight to Australia. The campaign received overwhelming support, raising nearly 38,000 Australian dollars as people rallied around the young golfer and her loved ones.

Jessica had already begun making her mark on Australian golf. She reportedly turned professional in 2025 and earned the nickname “Rookie Bang.” In February 2026, she won the Ford Women’s NSW Regional Qualifying tournament at Moss Vale—reportedly only her fifth professional start. Her victory offered a glimpse of the potential she had and the career that seemed to be just beginning.

Instead of preparing for more tournaments, Jessica’s family is now mourning a daughter, cousin, friend and talented young woman whose future was suddenly taken away. She was only 18, with dreams still ahead of her and an entire life waiting to unfold. Her tragic death has left the Australian golf community and everyone who knew her heartbroken. RIP, Jessica.
