Sandra Bullock calls out ‘every pervert’ she auditioned for at start of Hollywood career

Sandra Bullock has opened up about the uncomfortable side of breaking into Hollywood, recalling some of the experiences she faced before becoming one of the industry’s biggest stars. Bullock began pursuing acting professionally in the late 1980s, working her way through auditions and even waiting tables in New York. Looking back, she said some of those early experiences taught her an important lesson about knowing when to walk away.

Speaking with Jennifer Aniston for Interview magazine, Bullock bluntly described auditioning for people she said were inappropriate and demanding. “I was auditioning for every pervert that existed asking me to drop my pants,” she recalled. Rather than accepting an opportunity simply because she feared another might never come, Bullock said she learned to recognize when a role—or the people offering it—wasn’t right for her. 😳

Years later, Bullock made another major career decision after becoming closely associated with romantic comedies. She said she felt she was receiving too much criticism for the genre and wanted to “start flexing other muscles.” That led her to take a dramatic role in the 2004 film Crash, a significant departure from the movies that had helped establish her as a major star. The decision was risky, but it allowed her to demonstrate a different side of her acting ability.

Interestingly, Bullock says her priorities have now changed again. After decades of balancing comedy and drama, she admitted that she misses romantic comedies and wants to do more of them. Her return to the genre comes with Practical Magic 2, reuniting her with Nicole Kidman more than two decades after the original. From rejecting uncomfortable auditions to deliberately changing direction—and eventually returning to comedy—Bullock’s career has been shaped by knowing when to say “no.” ❤️
