Surprising Causes Of Hives Revealed — What May Be Triggering Your Skin Reaction

Skin reactions like hives are often harmless on their own, but they should not be ignored when combined with breathing problems. This combination can signal Anaphylaxis, a rapid and potentially life-threatening condition. While hives (urticaria) may appear as itchy, raised welts, they can also act as an early warning that the body is reacting more deeply.

The most serious concern is difficulty breathing. Symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, throat tightness, swelling of the lips or tongue, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat indicate that multiple body systems are involved. At this stage, the reaction can escalate quickly, making immediate action critical.

Common triggers include foods like peanuts, shellfish, milk, or eggs, as well as medications, insect stings, latex, or environmental allergens. Sometimes people already know their triggers, but in other cases, a severe reaction can happen unexpectedly, even without a prior history.

If hives occur יחד with breathing issues, emergency services should be contacted right away. If available, an epinephrine auto-injector such as EpiPen should be used immediately. Acting quickly can prevent serious complications and may save a life, as timing is crucial in managing severe allergic reactions.
