A shocking case from Brazil has left many people stunned after a 37-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly pretending to be a 12-year-old child for more than a year. Using the name “Gabriele,” she approached a church in Joinville, claiming she had escaped an abusive home and needed help. A local family eventually took her in, believing she was a vulnerable child in need of protection.

According to investigators, the woman spent 14 months living with the family and allegedly maintained the deception by speaking in a childlike voice, using baby bottles and comfort items, and claiming she suffered from autism and other medical conditions. She also told people that childhood hormone treatments had caused her older appearance. During her stay, the family grew close to her, celebrated what they believed was her 12th birthday, and even discussed formally adopting her.

The scheme began to unravel when a relative alerted police. After her arrest, authorities say she admitted her true age and identity. Investigators also linked her to an earlier case in 2023 in which she allegedly posed as another 12-year-old girl, making claims of abuse and ritual mistreatment that led community members to provide housing and support.

She now faces fraud and false identity charges and remains in custody while authorities investigate her past activities. The case has raised serious questions about trust, vulnerability, and how someone was able to maintain such an elaborate deception for so long.
