The world is mourning the loss of beloved actor Jon Cypher, who has died at 94. Best known for playing Chief of Police Fletcher Daniels on Hill Street Blues, Cypher enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than five decades in television, film, and Broadway.

According to his obituary, Cypher died at his home in Central Point, Oregon, on August 3, with his wife of 40 years, author Carol Rosin, by his side. No cause of death was given. His career began gaining attention in 1957 when he played Prince Charming opposite Julie Andrews in the first live television version of Cinderella, which attracted around 107 million viewers.

Cypher went on to appear in 12 Broadway productions and numerous popular television shows, including Bonanza, Mannix, Dynasty, Murder, She Wrote, JAG, Law & Order, and Walker, Texas Ranger. He also appeared in films such as Masters of the Universe and Valdez Is Coming. Beyond acting, he loved opera and could sing in four languages.

His final farewell will be especially personal. Cypher is set to be buried on August 11 at the Forest Conservation Burial Ground in Ashland, Oregon. According to his wishes, he will rest beneath tall trees in a meadow, wrapped in a natural, biodegradable shroud—a peaceful return to nature after an extraordinary life.

Rest in peace, Jon Cypher. Your remarkable legacy will live on.
