Lyle and Eleanor Gittens of Florida have been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest married couple, having spent an astonishing 83 years together. At ages 108 and 107, they also hold the record for the highest combined age of a married couple.
Married in 1942 during World War II, they built a life together through decades of change, raising three children and later welcoming grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their family says their commitment to one another never wavered, and their long marriage has become an inspiration to generations.
When asked for the secret to such a long and happy marriage, Lyle’s answer was simple: “Love, love, love.”
The couple credits their lasting bond to genuine affection, mutual support, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures together. Even after more than eight decades of marriage, they remain deeply devoted to each other and continue living independently near family in Miami.
Their remarkable love story serves as a powerful reminder that lasting relationships are built on friendship, commitment, and choosing each other every day.
