Trump reacts after being booed at the NBA Finals

Former U.S. President Donald Trump drew a mixed reaction from fans during Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, where the New York Knicks faced the San Antonio Spurs. His appearance marked the first time a sitting or former U.S. president attended an NBA Finals game at the venue.

Before tipoff, Trump was shown on the arena’s Jumbotron during the national anthem as he stood and saluted. Some sections of the crowd responded with boos, while others remained neutral or applauded. Despite the reaction, he appeared composed and continued saluting without interruption.

Moments later, the broadcast shifted focus to Knicks star Jalen Brunson, and the atmosphere inside the arena reportedly turned to loud cheers. Trump watched the game from a private suite alongside members of his team, while increased security measures were in place throughout Madison Square Garden.

Asked after the game about the response from fans when he was shown on screen during the anthem, Trump told reporters that he thought the reception was “very good.” “It was certainly amazing,” Trump said. “It was, I think, mostly cheers. It was loud and it was very enthusiastic.” Authorities implemented strict entry rules and heightened screening around the venue, affecting nearby public viewing events as well. Throughout the evening, Trump showed no visible reaction to the crowd noise, maintaining a calm demeanor.
