Tupac Shakur murder: Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis found guilty in 1996 drive-by shooting of rapper

After nearly three decades, the long-running mystery surrounding Tupac Shakur’s murder has reached a major turning point. 🎤🕊️ A Las Vegas jury found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the rapper’s 1996 killing. The verdict came just hours after attorneys delivered their closing arguments, bringing renewed attention to one of hip-hop’s most infamous unsolved cases.

Prosecutors argued that Davis helped orchestrate the shooting as retaliation for a casino fight earlier that night involving Tupac and Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson. They did not claim Davis personally pulled the trigger. Instead, prosecutors argued that under Nevada law, someone who helps plan or facilitate a murder can be held responsible for the killing. During the trial, investigators also described Davis as a powerful gang figure whose presence carried significant influence. ⚖️

Tupac was riding in a black BMW with Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight after watching Mike Tyson fight Bruce Seldon in Las Vegas. As they traveled toward a nightclub, a white Cadillac pulled alongside them at a red light. Gunfire erupted, striking Tupac multiple times. Knight survived, but Tupac died six days later at just 25 years old. 💔

The case remained cold for years before Davis’ own public statements helped revive the investigation. His interviews and a 2019 memoir brought renewed attention to what happened that night. Tupac’s legacy, however, remains much bigger than the tragedy surrounding his death. With more than 75 million records reportedly sold worldwide and unforgettable songs like “California Love,” “Changes,” and “Dear Mama,” his voice continues to influence generations. 🎶❤️🕊️
