Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance. The couple announced the birth in a joint statement, saying both Usha and the newborn are happy and healthy, while their three older children are excited to meet their new brother.

The couple also thanked the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for caring for Usha and the baby throughout the pregnancy and delivery. Alec joins their children Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel, making the Vances a family of six.

JD and Usha, who married in 2014, announced earlier this year that they were expecting another baby. The birth also represents a notable historical moment, as the Vances are believed to be the first sitting vice presidential family since 1870 to welcome a child while serving in office.

The announcement comes months after the couple dismissed online rumors about their marriage after Usha was seen at public events without her wedding ring. A representative explained that she sometimes removed it while caring for their young children and forgot to put it back on.
