With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of this legendary man who became such a big part of our childhood

WITH HEAVY HEARTS, WE SAY GOODBYE TO THE VOICE THAT HELPED RAISE A GENERATION. Peter Cullen, the legendary voice behind Optimus Prime and Eeyore, has died at 85. For millions of people, his voice wasn’t just something they heard on a screen—it was a part of their childhood. His family said he passed peacefully at his Los Angeles home, surrounded by loved ones.

For decades, Cullen gave life to characters that became unforgettable. His deep, powerful voice made Optimus Prime one of the most iconic heroes in animation, while his gentle, melancholy performance as Eeyore touched generations of children. He also voiced characters including Monterey Jack, KARR, and even supplied the terrifying creature sounds in Predator. Yet for many fans, hearing his voice was enough to instantly bring back memories of being a kid. 🥺

What makes his story even more meaningful is where he found inspiration for Optimus Prime. Cullen once revealed that his brother Larry, a U.S. Marine and Vietnam veteran, influenced the character’s calm, commanding voice and philosophy. His brother taught him that a true hero is “strong enough to be gentle.” Cullen carried that lesson into one of the most beloved characters in pop culture.

❤️ Peter Cullen wasn’t simply a voice actor. To millions, he WAS Optimus Prime. He WAS Eeyore. He was a familiar voice from a childhood that can never be repeated. Now that voice has gone silent, but the characters, memories and lessons he gave us will live on for generations. Rest in peace, Peter Cullen. Thank you for being part of our childhood. 🕊️
