World’s oldest living woman, 116, reveals a surprising secret to her long life

At 116 years old, Ethel Caterham became the world’s oldest living person, but her secret to a long life is surprisingly simple. While many people search for special diets or miracle habits, Ethel believes her longevity comes from one thing: avoiding unnecessary conflict. “Never arguing with anyone. I listen and I do what I like,” she shared.

Born in 1909 in Hampshire, England, Ethel has lived through more than a century of history. As a young woman, she worked as a nanny in India and the UK before marrying Norman Caterham, a British Army major, in 1933. Their life together took them to places like Hong Kong and Gibraltar, where they raised a family and experienced many adventures.

Throughout her remarkable life, Ethel has faced many challenges, including recovering from Covid-19 at the age of 110. She remained active and independent for decades, driving until she was 97 and enjoying activities like contract bridge well into her later years. Longevity also appears in her family, with one of her sisters living to 104.

Ethel’s story is about much more than reaching an impressive age. She has witnessed world-changing events, from the Titanic era and two World Wars to the moon landing, the internet, and modern technology. Her calm attitude, independence, and ability to accept life’s ups and downs have made her a true inspiration for generations.
