A routine trip to the dentist ended in tragedy after 9-year-old Silvanna Moreno died just hours after undergoing a root canal and other dental procedures at a California clinic. The young girl had struggled with tooth pain for months before receiving treatment that included a root canal, crown placement, and multiple tooth extractions under anesthesia.
According to reports, Silvanna appeared stable when she was discharged and returned home with her family. She remained sleepy after the procedure, but her breathing later became noticeably slower before she became unresponsive. Emergency crews rushed her to the hospital, where doctors were unable to revive her despite extensive lifesaving efforts.
The medical examiner later ruled her death accidental, citing methemoglobinemia, a rare blood disorder, in connection with the recent use of nitrous oxide and other anesthetic medications. The dentist stated that Silvanna showed no warning signs during the procedure or recovery and said all standard safety protocols were followed.
The case has drawn additional attention because the same dentist was previously investigated following a separate anesthesia-related incident involving another patient years earlier. An internal review is now underway as authorities continue examining the circumstances surrounding Silvanna’s heartbreaking death, while her family searches for answers after an unimaginable loss.
