Confused, I confronted her, but she held up a document with my dad’s signature, claiming ownership of the house. “Your dad knew who deserved it,” she sneered.

Then, to my shock, she told Matt, “I want a divorce.” Matt, bewildered and hurt, confronted her as she accused our family of never accepting her. “I need a fresh start,” she declared.

But Jessica’s scheme unraveled. A quick call to Dad’s attorney revealed it was all a test. “Your father didn’t leave her the house,” the lawyer confirmed.

Relief washed over me as Jessica realized her deception had backfired. Matt, finally seeing her true colors, agreed to the divorce. As we gathered the pieces of my life, I knew Dad would have been proud—sometimes, the true inheritance isn’t a house, but the wisdom to know who belongs in your life.
