Former First Lady Jill Biden has shared a heartfelt update on former President Joe Biden’s battle with advanced prostate cancer, saying he remains determined to stay active despite the challenges. Speaking on The View while promoting her memoir, View From the East Wing, Jill said her husband continues to travel, work on writing projects, attend public events, and stay involved in causes that matter to him as he undergoes treatment.
Jill acknowledged the seriousness of Joe Biden’s Stage 4 diagnosis, which has spread to his bones, but said the family is taking life one day at a time. She explained that he received regular medical care throughout and after his presidency, noting that current screening guidelines generally do not recommend routine PSA testing for older men. She also encouraged others, especially men, to pay close attention to their health and seek medical advice if something feels wrong.
The conversation also touched on Biden’s widely criticized debate performance during the 2024 presidential campaign. Jill recalled fearing he was experiencing a medical emergency while watching the debate, but said doctors later confirmed he had not suffered a stroke or another acute health crisis. Even so, she admitted the family still does not have a clear explanation for what caused that difficult appearance.
Looking ahead, Jill said the cancer diagnosis completely changed the retirement plans she and her husband had envisioned. Instead of focusing on travel and a quieter life, they are now facing an unexpected health battle together. Despite the uncertainty, she described Joe Biden as remaining resilient, optimistic, and committed to making the most of each day.
