Kathy Ireland rose to fame as one of the most recognizable models of the 1980s and ’90s. Discovered by Elite Model Management at just 16, she went on to appear on major magazine covers, including Sports Illustrated, while also pursuing acting. But behind the glamorous image, Ireland has spoken openly about the difficult side of modeling, including an uncomfortable encounter with a photographer when she was a teenager.

Rather than relying on modeling forever, Ireland began building a business empire. In 1993, she launched Kathy Ireland Worldwide, initially starting with a line of socks before expanding into clothing, home furnishings and countless other products. Her company eventually became a multibillion-dollar licensing business, and advice from business leaders such as Warren Buffett helped shape her approach. She focused on creating accessible products for everyday families rather than luxury goods.
Ireland also credits her father for teaching her the work ethic that helped drive her success. She married physician Greg Olsen in 1988, and the couple have three children. Along the way, she developed a close friendship with Elizabeth Taylor, whom she regarded as a mentor and major influence on both her personal and professional life. Ireland has also remained active in philanthropy.

Now in her 60s, Ireland says she embraces aging rather than trying to turn back the clock. She enjoys surfing, hiking, biking and spending time outdoors, while maintaining a balanced approach to food and fitness. Her journey from teenage model to successful entrepreneur is a reminder that her greatest achievement may have happened long after the cameras stopped focusing on the runway.
